Our teams are hard at work, laying the foundations to help deliver a once in a generation project – the Western Sydney International Airport.

In an engagement which shows the breadth and range of our service offering, Boral’s asphalt team and our concrete placing business De Martin & Gasparini (DMG) are involved in providing a fully integrated turn-key solution on tarmac surfacing and concrete services for the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport Terminal & Specialty Services.

The airport, scheduled to open in 2026 with the capacity to accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year, is designed to embrace the Australian landscape and First Nations heritage with a focus on sustainable infrastructure.

DMG have been working onsite since last year for the construction of this landmark infrastructure project, as part of the Multiplex delivery team

Louie Mazzarolo, DMG General Manager, said:

“since commencing on site in December 2021, De Martin and Gasparini has supplied and placed over 68,000m3 of concrete to the new Western Sydney International (NancyBird Walton) Airport Terminal & Specialty Services whilst utilising 5 tower placing booms and an articulated spider boom”.

“DMG’s Western Sydney team has achieved great milestones, with multiple concrete pumps & crews on site and completing pours of up to 900m3!” he said. “DMG has also been successful in winning the tender for the external works adding approximately an additional 6,000m3 to this iconic project.”

Boral’s asphalt team have swung into high gear from April, with work that will cover the runway, taxiways, and the airside roads as part of the CPB Contractors and ACCIONA Australia joint venture. An initial focus has been the build of a temporary on-site asphalt plant to reduce traffic congestion and streamline operations.

We’re very proud to contribute our expertise in surfacing airport infrastructure to this iconic project, which incorporates Boral asphalt, concrete, quarries, IT, and logistics.

“Our team is already hard at work, building the temporary asphalt plant on site and getting stuck into the detailed planning that is needed to ensure the pavement work is ready to start later this year,” he said.

When complete, the WSIA will join a long list of iconic Australian infrastructure projects that Boral has enabled, all contributing to a stronger Australian economy.
