Dunmore operations threw open its gates to its staff and their families earlier this month to mark the quarry’s 100 year anniversary.

This is a significant celebration for Boral and the staff working at Dunmore, located in the Illawarra region of NSW, with 120 people attending the event. There was plenty to keep everyone busy, with a coach tour of the quarry and operations, photos with both large and small machinery as well as the chance to sit in an impressive new concrete Agi. There were loads of historical information about the site with some great photographs of staff over the years, awesome videos to watch, a BBQ lunch and plenty of giveaways to take home.

Lloyd Wallace, EGM Concrete and Quarries NSW, James Collings, General Manager Quarries NSW/ACT, and Glenn Lowerson Quarry Manager, Dunmore, welcomed guests and spoke about how Dunmore operations have contributed to the regional economy.

Many buildings in the greater Sydney, Illawarra region and South Coast region are likely to have used aggregate from this very quarry. Our Dunmore Quarry basalt/latite rock is part of the specifications for the asphalt design mixes being used in Boral’s contracts for Sydney Airport, the future Western Sydney Airport, Richmond Airbase and the Navy’s Albatross bases.

We all play an important part in building something great in our communities, and it’s a great privilege to work for such an iconic Australian business. James acknowledged a number of staff who have worked at this site for many decades, in particular Sue and Mick who have put in over 35 years of service at this site. But just as important was the welcome to our new employees who are just starting out with the company, who have a long future ahead of them here at Boral. Lloyd stressed the importance our company places on employees making it home safely to their families, every single day.

Thank you to the Dunmore team who all pitched in to make this such a memorable day for all who attended. Hopefully we have inspired a few of the next generation to come and work with us in the future!
