Boral Cements' dry graded sands can be used in a wide range of other applications including rail traction sand, synthetic turf infill sand, and as a drilling medium for ground water testing.

Rail Traction Sand

Many rail operators use Boral dry graded sands as traction sand in locomotives to aid grip on rails in wet weather conditions and in steep incline situations. The dry tightly graded nature of the sand allows easy transition of sand from the locomotive sandbox to the wheels without obstruction.

Synthetic Grass Infill Sand

Several different grades of Boral dry graded sands can be used as infill for synthetic turf applications such as tennis courts, playgrounds, golf greens, sports arenas and other recreation areas. The dry free flowing nature of the sand allows easy placement within the grass fibre pile, assisting fibres to remain upright, whilst maintaining drainage and creating an anchor for the grass bed.

Drilling Medium

Boral dry graded sands are commonly used in water monitoring drill wells as a filtration medium to pack the well sleeve and aid water ingress from the surrounding water table for sampling.  The free-flowing nature of the dry sand allows easy, rapid filling of wells, whilst the single sized pure quartz particles create a natural filter bed removing particulates and allowing the groundwater to flow unrestrained into the well.
