Boral was very pleased to be a sponsor of Dorrie Day in Bundaberg last week. Dorrie Day has been going since 2020 and the word Dorrie is based on local Aboriginal English where to 'have a dorrie' means to be nosey, originating from the popular nosy neighbour of the time, Doris. (the Karen of earlier days!!).

Over 2,000 attendees came together to honour our First Nations heritage and explore future employment opportunities. With 21 schools and over 700 students participating, the event offered a unique platform for young people to be nosy, to ask questions and to explore career possibilities while listening and talking to local elders and staying deeply connected to their cultural roots.

Families engaged with 85 interactive exhibitor stalls, there were appearances from a number of NRL players who held a footy workshop and spoke about their careers post football, inspiring words of wisdom from over 20 Elders who spoke to participants throughout the day, and activities such as the jumping castle ensured that even the youngest attendees could get involved. Boral was proud to support such a positive cultural and career driven initiative and hopes to be involved even more in the future.
