Meet Amanda Urban, Asphalt’s Logistics and Allocations Manager for Queensland and Western Australia, and the recipient of the CEO STAAR Award in 2024.
Amanda's career began in the mining industry in Western Australia. When her family relocated to Brisbane, she transitioned into bitumen allocation before joining Boral in 2020 as the Bitumen Transport Supervisor. Since then, Amanda has steadily grown her career at Boral, receiving industry recognition as an Emerging Leader in 2022.
Her current role as QLD/WA Asphalt Logistics and Allocations Manager involves supporting the standardisation of fleet management, ensuring Heavy Vehicle compliance, and managing Metro Asphalt cartage. Amanda also continues to oversee the bitumen transport fleet movements and allocations, demonstrating her versatility and expertise in logistics.
The CEO STAAR Award is a special recognition given to an apprentice or front-line leader who has consistently demonstrated the STAAR values through their work and contribution to business performance. Amanda's achievement highlights her exceptional leadership and dedication to Boral's values.
Vik Bansal, CEO of Boral, praised Amanda's leadership, stating, "Amanda's leadership style hits the right balance between frontline leadership and tactical operational management. She is vigilant around compliance and a strong advocate for 'safe systems of work.' Amanda is approachable for her drivers, consistent with her leadership decisions, and works well with the business. She deals with issues in a proactive manner and leads the team with a 'best for Boral mindset.'"
Her journey with Boral demonstrates her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence which have earned her the respect and admiration of her team and colleagues.
In Boral's annual employee engagement survey, Amanda received an overall score of 9.0, with an impressive 9.9 in management support and 9.8 in recognition.
Reflecting on the significance of being recognised by the CEO, Amanda shared, “Out of 5,000 Boral employees I was acknowledged, it was a real pinch me moment, and I feel really grateful to receive the award.”
