Earlier this year, Boral leased over 15 hectares of our Emu Plains site to Acciona for them to construct (and later operate) the primary pre-casting plant for the Western Harbour Tunnel Project, - creating a Western bypass of the Sydney CBD and relieving pressure off the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel.
With strong collaboration and a deep safety focus - the project has already delivered successful results, allowing our Recycling operation to continue to thrive while Acciona has been completing civil works with 50-100 contractors on site on any given day.
Successful milestones include the movement of 70,000 tonnes of recycling stock from the leased area, relocation of refuelling, servicing and parking areas, construction of new internal roads and the development of new dams and stormwater systems.
“This is a perfect example of The Boral Way in action – with Teamwork across our green, gold and silver teams. NSW Concrete and Quarries initiated the discussions with Acciona, Boral Property led the land commercial diligence, Legal worked on the contractual arrangements, and our Recycling team brought deep knowledge of every stone on site and has led the day-to-day activity alongside Acciona since day-1.
The project will lead to great outcomes including helping us to meet some of our land rehabilitation requirements, generating volumes to our Concrete business and operational efficiencies in our Recycling business.
