Staff from across the organisation got behind R U OK? Day on 14 September with get-togethers held at our sites and branches across the country.
R U OK? Day, an annual national day of action, contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging all Australians to take the time to have a meaningful “R U OK?” conversation with someone who may be struggling with life, to let that person feel supported and connected.
Our Tech Services team took time to reflect on the importance of looking out for each other. The team held morning teas across the network inspired by one of their lovely team members who bakes, “just to put a smile on everyone’s face”.
An R U OK? Day brekkie was held at Boral Milton which sought to reinforce Boral’s commitment to caring for our employees’ mental wellbeing and remind staff that by fostering open dialogue, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us.
Port Kembla Asphalt production and contracting, along with the allocations and sales teams, and management got together to discuss breaking the stigma of the ‘tough’ guy/girl image and that it’s OK to reach out and talk. The teams also discussed how to start the conversation and, if needed, refer people to the right channels for help.
Our Port Melbourne Contact Centre embraced “I’m here to hear” as their motto to reach out, listen and check in with one another, and reminded everyone that any day is the day to ask, “R U OK?” to support those struggling with life.
A morning team of home-cooked R U OK? Day cupcakes were enjoyed by the team at Marulan South Limestone. The team discussed how to have an R U OK? conversation and highlighted that statistically, half of us will experience a mental health condition in our lifetime, making it so important that we look out for each other.
