The number one Aussie song in 2004 was a remake of the classic rock hit “What about me?” by Shannon Noll.

At the same time, C&Q North classic Tony Mulkerin was starting his Boral career as a Driver in Mount Isa. With a new job on average every two years, Tony has moved up and around Queensland over his two-decade career at Boral, with roles as Plant Manager, Technical Support Manager, Queensland Country Technical Manager (his original dream job!) and more.

In reflecting on his career so far, Tony said “Boral offers the opportunity for people to progress through the organisation.  Before I joined, I had dealt with the Boral Mt Isa team in role at an independent construction materials company.”

“Boral had a real family feel about it and its certainly provided me with the opportunity to further enhance my skills in the industry.”

“When I joined my goal was to become the Queensland Country Technical Manager, a dream job which I got to by job number four.”

General Manager SEQ Concrete Nathan Barrel awarded Tony his 20-year service milestone award recently and in the celebrations reflected on his immense contribution.

“Tony has worked across all of Queensland in both our Operations and Technical teams. Well done to Tony on this great milestone and in supporting the Queensland Concrete team to Build Something Great every day.” he said

In his final words on his milestone career achievement, Tony said

“After 20 years with Boral, it’s rewarding to drive over a bridge, through a tunnel, or look at the city skyline and know that you were part of the team that was involved in their construction.

"My journey continues now with developing and training the next generation”.
