Sydney Metro West is a new 24 kilometre underground metro railway that will double rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD with confirmed stations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont, and Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD.
Boral is proud to have been selected as the supply partner responsible for mix development, concrete production and product testing for the Sydney Metro West-Western Tunnelling Package, Eastern Tunnelling Package and Central Tunnelling Package.
Working with the Garmuda Australia and Laing O'Rourke Consortium with support from Sydney Metro for the Sydney Metro West- Western Tunnelling Package, Boral has designed and developed an innovative product providing a lower upfront carbon concrete segment mix with 49.4 per cent granulated blast furnace slag cement to replace Portland cement.
The use of this precast concrete mix will significantly reduce the embodied carbon footprint of the Sydney Metro West-West- Western Tunnelling Package tunnel segments.
