Sydney Metro West (SMW) project is a new 24-kilometre underground metro railway which will double rail capacity between Paramatta and the Sydney CBD, link new communities to rail services and support employment growth and housing supply.
The Sydney Metro West station locations have been confirmed at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont, and Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD.
Boral is proud to be selected as a supply partner responsible for mix development, concrete production and product testing for the Western Tunnelling Package, Eastern Tunnelling Package and Central Tunnelling Package.
Working with the Gamuda Australia and Laing O’Rourke Consortium (GLC) with support from Sydney Metro for the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package, Boral has designed and developed an innovative product providing:
- A lower upfront carbon concrete segment mix with 49.4% granulated blast furnace slag cement to replace Portland cement using Boral’s proprietary ZEP additive.
- The use of this precast concrete mix will significantly reduce the embodied carbon footprint of the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package tunnel segments.
Boral's experienced teams has designed, developed, and tested the concrete mixes for the precast tunnel segments, and have manufactured the concrete to ensure this critical infrastructure is completed to a high-quality standard, on time, on budget, and most importantly safely and sustainably.
Sydney Metro West will target an opening date of 2032, SMW features a new generation of fast, safe and reliable metro trains. The new driverless technology, including platform screen safety doors keeping people and objects like prams away from tracks.
Boral is proud to have been given the opportunity to share and demonstrate its expertise when it comes to transport infrastructure, leveraging our capabilities across testing, concrete and quarry materials for this iconic project.
