Building a better and safer Sydney

The Sydney Harbour Zone is an area that stretches from Sydney’s coastline to suburbs like Galston in the city’s north, Strathfield in the west, and Milperra in the south. The area includes over 1000 km of state roads, 9 million square metres of asphalt pavements, over 1700 traffic lights, 268 bridges and hundreds of school safety zones.

And in one of Boral’s latest joint ventures, ConnectSydney, we’ve partnered with Service Stream and Johnson Controls to work with Transport for NSW to provide the road corridor services on these important Transport for NSW assets, keeping them performing to their absolute best.

The ConnectSydney team won the rights to the Harbour Zone component of the NSW Government’s Sydney Roads Asset Performance Contract in 2020.

Boral has been a partner in ConnectSydney since 2021 under a nine-year agreement, focusing on routine maintenance, strategic enhancements, and specialised projects to improve Sydney’s transport infrastructure.

On any given day the ConnectSydney partnership delivers road pavement works, intelligent transport system implementations, corridor enhancements, bridge and tunnel maintenance, and special event and school safety zone management.

Tim Richards, Executive General Manager Asphalt talked about the multiple benefits to Boral in a partnership like ConnectSydney.

“Our asphalt business is a mix of infrastructure projects and regular base volume. The project work can be up and down in terms of volume of work at any given time.”  Tim Richards, EGM Asphalt

“ConnectSydney gives us a more consistent ongoing base volume of work. And it’s great that Boral is part of this diverse partnership delivering in areas - beyond asphalt works - like event management and bridge operations as well” Tim Richards, EGM Asphalt

The ConnectSydney partnership plays an important role for the state of NSW. The ConnectSydney team work closely with Transport for NSW to deliver top-notch services that positively impact the lives of residents, workers, and visitors in the Harbour Zone.

ConnectSydney's work ranges from pothole repairs and green space upkeep to intelligent traffic signals and ensuring the structural integrity of bridges.
