The Boral Mobile Projects team have been involved with many projects on the Cape York Peninsula over the years, with the latest being the Archer River Bridge Project which was secured by the team in April 2022.

Boral was engaged to supply 3500m3 of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) approved concrete for the construction of a 230mt long bridge over the Archer River, located 625km north of Cairns in Far North Queensland.

The current crossing is generally closed every wet season due to flooding. The bridge will significantly improve access to areas that are home to some of Queensland’s most remote communities.

Initially slated as a five-month project running between June and November 2022, due to design issues and only being able to access the site for six months of the year in the dry season, the project timeline was adjusted and will now be completed in October 2024.

This bridge is part of the overall upgrade of the Peninsula Development Road which will provide all-weather access between Weipa and Cairns. Boral supplied concrete for the original floodway back in 2009 with Derek Clark, a long time Boral employee, involved in both projects as well as many more in the Cape.

This time around Boral has three plant staff in Jason Rummell, Ben Munro, Shane Lamont and five contracted agitator drivers on rotation, Kevin Price, Peter Blayney, Reece Price, Colin Blessas and Liam Holt, working on a three week on, one week off roster to keep the plant staffed for seven day a week supply to our client MCD.

The project has received tremendous support from our technical manager Peter Brett, Clarky our Tanker Driver and Michael Brownlie from Boral Transport. Well done to the whole team.
