In light of recent media reports and attention in the UK about concerns related to the use of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in schools, we can confirm we do not produce, offer or supply RAAC.
RAAC is a manufactured, precast product that involves foaming (aerating) a concrete mortar mix before placing it in an autoclave to heat cure the structural element. It contains steel reinforcement and is mainly used for walls and roofing and supported by structural beams. Concerns in the UK relate to examples where this combined system has failed, requiring additional support to make it safe.
Boral has supplied minimal volumes of ‘aerated lightweight concrete’ which we call ‘cellular foam’ into non-structural applications. We are clear that our aerated concrete is non-structural, and it is not RAAC.
