The Boral Asphalt team can add another major infrastructure project to their list with the announcement that we have been engaged to supply and deliver product for the Coffs Harbour Bypass.
Over the course of the project, our teams will lay 280 kilotonnes of asphalt on the $2.2 billion infrastructure project.
The Australian and NSW governments are funding the Coffs Harbour bypass project, which will boost the regional economy and improve connectivity, road efficiency and safety for motorists. Set to be open to traffic in late 2026 and completed by 2027, it will be a key link in Australia’s infrastructure, connecting Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
The scale of the project is so large that the local Boral team will resource the work with support from surrounding teams in the region.
Another element that makes the project special is the type of asphalt being used. Traditionally, roads in NSW have used rigid concrete, but for the Coffs Harbour bypass our teams will deliver flexible pavement using EME asphalt.
This is an Australian-developed, French product first pioneered by Boral nearly a decade ago. EME enables a thinner layer of the ultra-hard, high-flexing-resistant asphalt to be used, and traffic load to be distributed among it and ‘bending’ the asphalt. This creates more durability in the road. EME is also a more sustainable product with five-to-10 times the lifespan of regular asphalt.
Tim Richards, Executive General Manager, Asphalt said: “We are pleased to be involved in the delivery of the Coffs Harbour bypass, a significant infrastructure project that will better connect our major cities and ease congestion in the area.”
“We are committed to supporting regional growth and creating more employment opportunities for local residents.”
