Our Deer Park Quarry team together with our Asphalt colleagues hosted a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) careers initiative with high school students in May.
The visit was part of the Seed2STEM program, an initiative from the Geelong Manufacturing Council in Ballarat. The program involves career immersion activities for young women in years 9 and 10 across a range of local manufacturing and engineering businesses. The aim is to showcase the STEM-based careers available to young women if they choose STEM subjects in high school and progress to STEM-based tertiary study.
We welcomed 17 young women in years 9 and 10 from schools across the Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat region. The young women were taken on a tour of our Deer Park site. They also heard from Quarry Development Specialist, Kathryn Czapnik and Area Manager Concrete, Natasha Vulin on their STEM career journeys.
Natasha was excited to be part of the day, “This was such a great initiative and a great way for Boral to connect with future talent in our local communities.”
Thank you to Jason Gready, Quarries Operations Manager and Melinda Farrell, Community Relations Specialist, and all of our presenters and organising team for making this day happen.
“It was a pleasure to host the young people at our site showing them what we do here at Deer Park. Well done to everyone on organising such a special day for the future generation.”
Charles Vella, Site Coordinator Quarries.
