Brisbane Move is a joint venture partnership led by construction company Acciona, which is delivering the first stage of the Brisbane Metro Project for the Brisbane City Council.
Brisbane Metro is a key part of Brisbane’s greater transport network connecting the city to the suburbs.
New high-capacity and high-frequency tram services will run along dedicated busways and link with suburban bus and train services as part of a better-planned network.
The first stage will provide two new Brisbane Metro lines connecting 18 stations along dedicated busways between Eight Mile Plains and Roma Street, and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and The University of Queensland.
The first stage is underway and includes:
- a new tunnel beneath Adelaide Street and revitalised streetscape from North Quay to Edward Street
- an upgrade to Cultural Centre station
- changes to Victoria Bridge to provide three lanes for Brisbane Metro and bus services, and dedicated cycling and pedestrian pathways
- upgrades to some suburban stations including end-of-route vehicle charging facilities
- a new fleet of 60, fully electric Metro vehicles.
Boral was awarded the concrete supply package for the project in 2022 and has been supplying a wide range of products to the project including shotcrete for the tunnel, concrete pavement and barrier wall mixes, said General Manager South East Queensland Concrete, Nathan Barrell.
“Currently we are halfway through the project with the majority of the work taking place down in the tunnel which is being supplied by our Eagle Farm concrete plant on a 24/7 basis, including over holidays,” he said.
Recently a number of Boral staff were able to tour the tunnel and see our product in place, as we continue Building Something Great.
“Thanks to all of the southeast Queensland Concrete teams involved in the project, especially our nightshift and weekend teams who will continue delivering for our customer for another 12 months.”
