We speak to DMG’s new General Manager Marco Gidaro to understand what made him want to build a career at DMG, what he sees in DMG’s future and some of the great things the team have been working on.

Marco - what brought you to DMG and why have you built your career here?

I started at DMG back in 2010 after a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, I’d come from an engineering internship at a local council and was looking to work on something bigger and more exciting.

In those first few years I learnt from a lot of good people, many who are still working at DMG, way too many to mention everyone. It was people like Nicholas Cal, Graziano Barbaro and Luis Palma who took the time to help me learn.  It’s the people that make this business.

From my start as a cadet, I progressed to leading hand, into project management, contracts management and then in my most recent role as commercial manager.

Over the last six years in DMG’s commercial role – I worked closely with Louie on the acquisition and integration of Pro Concrete Group into DMG.

I’ve always wanted to be able to grow my career at DMG, and the company has been supportive of people doing exactly that by providing opportunities and challenges so people can continue to grow.

How are you and the DMG team thinking about the year ahead?

In a market that’s a little slower and more competitive than usual, the things that set us apart will be our service to the client.

At DMG it’s our great team culture and the work ethic that help us deliver for our clients and maintain our great client relationships and bring us repeat work.

Clients are taking us to new opportunities - we’ve been doing more work in the Western Suburbs of Sydney - with data centres and warehousing and also two total structure packages (supply and installation of concrete, formwork, reinforcement, post tensioning) for two of the Metro stations on the Western Sydney Airport line.

We also want to continue to build on the great work we have been doing in Brisbane – there are a few clients there where we’d like to expand into.

What are some of the great things the team have been building?

We have over 150 projects on the go right now – so there definitely is a lot of great work going on.

We are working on The Kangaroo Point Bridge in Brisbane – a 460-metre-long bridge that connects pedestrians and cyclists between Brisbane’s eastern suburbs and the CBD. It’s going to be a tourist destination for Brisbane Olympics visitors and a community asset for decades to come.

The team are also working on the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct – the NSW Government’s $800 million project to improve healthcare services for Newcastle and the greater Hunter region.

We are also working with Sydney Metro on complete structure packages for two stations on the Western Sydney Airport line. We secured this work based on our recent delivery of the Sydney Metro City and Southwest line.
