Michael Robinson celebrated 20 years of working at Boral with an incredible career journey, starting as a driver before working his way up to Batcher In Charge.
When did you start with Boral?
I started working with Boral back in 2004. I was employed as an agitator driver based at the Toowoomba plant in North Street.
Pretty soon that role expanded from driving the agitator into a loader driver role, and then learning how to batch concrete as well.
This was really rewarding, and batching was challenging to start with, but I soon got my head around it.
How did your career progress?
I spent a year at the Toowoomba plant before a position became available at the Laidley Plant in the Lockyer valley as an Agitator Driver and Batcher. This was great as I lived a short 23 kilometres from the site.
In 2006 - I was promoted to Batcher in Charge at Laidley. My knowledge of the local area served me well when it came to putting orders in and knowing where and how long it would take to arrive on site with the trucks.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in your 20 years at Boral?
It’s been great to see how things have improved over the years in the batching process. From the old manual batching processes and manual batch record books which you batched from. Nowadays we have online systems to enter jobs and batch orders.
What do you like about working at Boral?
I enjoy coming to work every day for the interaction with my colleagues and customers.
