Raju Adhikari originally hails from the small south Asia country of Nepal, home to the world-famous Himalayan Mountain range.
A civil engineer in Nepal, Raju moved to Australia seeking a new and better life.
He commenced with Boral in 2014 and has been involved in some of our company’s biggest projects including the Northern Road Upgrade, Western Sydney International and was appointed Quality Management Representative for the Sydney Airport Taxiway upgrade in 2015.
How has your life changed since joining Boral?
I have been given so many learning opportunities and I consider my colleagues as my second family.
I came from a poor country. Since being in Australia I have learned the Australian culture and language. Looking back on my early days, my workmates would tell me ‘Now you are an Aussie’ and I was so glad to hear that.
What do you think of the work environment?
Everyone is so friendly and nice to each other. I wake up each morning excited to go to work. Since I have started work with Boral my entire mindset has changed. I’m now much more positive and motivated.
I consider Brian Cini, who I report to, as my mate. He always encourages me to push myself one step further, stay motivated, stay calm and give things time, and that everything will be bright one day.
James Taylor, who I work with, is also the ideal type of friend that anyone could want. He is like the soccer player Messi to me – always calm and nice. I have learned calmness from him.
What advice would you to someone changing or starting a new career?
The best advice I can give anyone is that life is not always a straight line. It has got bends. Sometimes you go downhill and sometimes uphill. This is just how life is. The best thing we can do is go down and up but keep moving forward.
