Jimmy Ristevski, Trainer Assessor at Concrite

Jimmy RistevskiBoral is setting up a network of Mental Health Champions across our sites.
Our Mental Health Champions will be trained to support employees and connect people to the wellbeing support services they might need.
Mental Health Champions will also work with our People and Culture team to promote a culture of wellbeing and support across Boral.

We spoke with one of our Mental Health Champions, Jimmy Ristevski, Trainer Assessor at Concrite, about the role and what it means to him.

What does mental health mean to you?

Mental health affects so many people in so many different ways. It has affected me both directly and indirectly. When I was given the opportunity to become a Mental Health Champion, I jumped at the chance to be part of a positive change and growth both for me, my family and the people I work with.
To me Mental Health is about having the tools to overcome obstacles even when you might be feeling overwhelmed, it’s about finding balance in life with work, family and exercise and getting out to do the things that improve my wellbeing.

What made you want to become a Mental Health Champion at Boral?

In my role as Trainer Assessor, I get to work with loads of great people, and seeing people succeed at work is what drives me personally. As a Mental Health Champion being able to help a teammate during a tough period would be a valuable addition to my role.
What would you say to someone who doesn't feel comfortable talking about mental health problems or when they might not feel right at work?
I would validate their feelings as it can be really hard to open up. I’d reassure them that being open about what they are experiencing can be really rewarding as it can provide them with the support they need to overcome their challenges.

How do you know (or how should people know) when it's time to seek help?

It may not be the same for everyone but in general, you should seek support for your mental health if you've been feeling worried, sad, down, angry, anxious, depressed, numb or 'not yourself' for several weeks or more,  or the way you're feeling is affecting your ability to cope at work, school or in your relationships.
