Troy Thehu, Concrete Agitator Driver
Troy Thehu, is just a few months into his role in our Concrete team in South East Queensland having moved over after a successful 20 years in Asphalt.
On one of his first weeks in the role, Troy was called out to deliver a load to Ferny Grove State High School and what he found at the high school definitely surprised him.
Teens that screed together
Troy said, despite the pretty grim weather the Ferny Grove teenagers were excited and ready to get stuck into their project “It was great to see the kids’ getting hands on – they were getting right in there and shovelling and then screeding the concrete.”
“They were really interested in the industry and in getting involved in it, so it was great to be able to talk about Boral and what they could do to get started in the industry” he said.
Ferny Grove Head of Agricultural Studies – Mr Adrian Sands said it was great to see the familiar Boral Agi turn up at the school. “My dad used to work for Boral as a General Manager back in the day, so it’s nice to have that familiar Boral truck roll up as our young people look to build the skills they need to get into the industry”.
For now, the slab the students were laying will help them practice their brick laying but they have some big plans to undertake works across the school site that will create more functionality for students and the broader school community.
