Peppertree Quarry, near Goulburn in NSW, is the largest operation within our Quarry business. The quarry extracts three million tonnes of granodiorite, moves over one million cubic meters of overburden and blends 450,000 tonnes of limestone sand every year to undertake the site’s primary role which is to provide aggregates and sands to Boral’s Sydney-based Concrete and Asphalt network.
Operations take place 24 hours a day and seven days a week, with the site operating several different shifts to ensure the site’s markets and assets are serviced. With up to 150 workers on site and the non-stop nature of activities, there is a lot of teamwork required to ensure everybody returns home safely to their families every day.
The Peppertree team have taken ownership of their safety performance with a number of initiatives including daily stretching at toolbox talks to reduce the risk of muscle injuries, trialing the mandatory wearing of gloves to prevent hand injuries and a strong focus on safety walks with feedback presented every day at toolbox talks.
Through these initiatives, the behavioural safety conversations and the rigorous application of Boral’s standards, the site has recently celebrated over 12 months without an injury requiring medical treatment and more than two years without lost time injuries.
Peppertree delivers its aggregates and sands via train to distribution terminals in and around Sydney. The Boral teams at these terminals unload and handle record volumes to ensure our Concrete and Asphalt plants have a consistent supply of quality aggregates, allowing Boral to continue Building Something Great.
Well done to all involved in living our Boral values to take Peppertree Quarry from Good to Great.
