The light rail system provides the Gold Coast with a world class public transport system including 19 light rail stations, and bus interchanges for Southport and Broadbeach

The 20-kilometre line features 19 stations, and bus interchanges for Southport and Broadbeach. The $2 billion project was delivered as a public-private partnership.

Stage 1 established the line from the Gold Coast University Hospital to Broadbeach South over 13 kilometres with 16 stations and was finished in 2014. Stage 2 saw the line extended from the hospital to the regional rail network at Helensvale Station. It features three stations and two park and ride facilities. It was finished in 2018.

The construction occurred amid live road and pedestrian infrastructure and a significant amount of underground services in the Gold Coast area.
