Sydney Airport’s main and cross runways were re-sheeted over 10 months in a process that constricted the work schedule to outside flight curfew hours.
Sydney Airport’s night curfew left Boral with just 6.5 hours per shift to carry out runway re-sheeting work. More than 90 people and 70 pieces of equipment had to be mobilised each night to remove existing asphalt and replace it with fresh material, clearing the runway by 6am to allow air traffic to resume. After extensive planning and nightly briefings to ensure seamless operation Boral re-sheeted 255,000 square metres over 74 shifts without missing a deadline.
