Our teams at Peppertree, Marulan, Roseneath and Redlynch have been busy building on their engagement with local Aboriginal communities.
Our Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Committees help us strengthen the relationship we have between our Quarry teams and Traditional Owners in a region.
Together the committees identify projects and events we can work on together to provide opportunities for our people to learn about local cultural history, get to know committee members, and learn more about Aboriginal culture and heritage.
Up in the Sunshine State
Up in Queensland our Bindal committee members travelled to Cairns to do a site visit with Michael Rea up at Redlynch quarry before their committee meeting.
Eddie, Eddie, Della and Fred had a tour of the quarry and an overview of operations before getting back to work on their local young artist competition, preparation for NAIDOC week in Townsville and logistics for our joint Bindal and staff event later in the year.
We are also working on developing a Townsville specific cultural awareness training induction package for our Boral colleagues.
Across NSW
In NSW our committee members are working with the Bungonia Historical Association to choose plants best suited to Marulan for a bush tucker garden they are planning on building later this year.
After spending the morning looking at plants in the Bungonia garden with Anne, Anna and Joost we have plenty of inspiration about what and when to start planting!
Next stop: Peppertree - where our committee meeting was followed by BBQ with the Peppertree team. Committee members spoke about their projects, met with new team members and caught up with people they've been working with for a number of years.
