Boral was pleased to be the platinum sponsor for Townsville’s NAIDOC Week this year as part of Roseneath Quarry’s ongoing work with the local Aboriginal community and elders. The theme, For Our Elders, resonates deeply with Boral as it emphasises the invaluable role our Elders play in shaping the communities in which we live and work.

The Townsville team enjoyed having a good yarn at the corporate breakfast, cherishing time-honoured customs at the Elders’ luncheon, and contributing to the vibrancy of the Deadly Day Out that featured cultural performances, food stalls and an array of other entertainment.

This year, in recognition of NAIDOC Week, an artwork was chosen by the Roseneath Quarry Reconciliation Steering Committee to be displayed in the quarry office and showcased throughout NAIDOC Week activities. We’d like to congratulate Shanane Mills-Prior whose artwork ‘Thul Garrie Waja’ was selected. The piece depicts family groups coming together at three local rivers, the Burdekin River, the Haughton River and the Ross River.

In the spirit of the traditional Birrigubba greeting “Wadda Mooli”, the team paid their respects to the Bindal and Wulgurukaba peoples, the traditional custodians of the land that is now known as Townsville. Their symbols — the Bindal’s guiding star and the Wulgurukaba’s creation snake — are a testament to their rich cultural heritage and timeless wisdom.

Boral is proud to have joined in celebrating and acknowledging the shared past with our First Nations people and nurturing relationships for a respectful and collaborative future.
