Nick White our Country Operations Manager (North), and Seaham Quarry Manager Brendan Kiley were very pleased to have the Hon Dr David Gillespie MP, Federal Member for Lyne visit the Seaham Quarry recently. The team gave an overview of quarry operations, future development and a tour of site infrastructure and the quarry footprint.
The Seaham Quarry is a key component of Boral’s NSW resource and production network. Materials generated by the site are transported to building and construction customers in Newcastle, across the Hunter Valley and Port Stephens regions.
These essential resources enable the construction of critical infrastructure, commercial and residential developments. The site supplies product to local councils including the Mid Coast, Port Stephens, Maitland, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle councils. Upcoming projects include the M1 Extension from Beresfield (2 Stages), Nelson Bay Rd Duplication, Singleton Bypass, Muswellbrook Bypass, Hexham additional lane, Newcastle container terminal and the Williamtown Airport upgrade.
Quarrying began at the site in 1991 after planning approval was achieved in 1985. Extractive activities take place within a rich seam of ignimbrite, an igneous hard rock which possesses high qualities of strength and endurance. A smaller resource of rhyolite, another igneous rock, also exists on the site and is similarly extracted as needed.
We appreciate the support of our local elected representatives and look forward to seeing Dr Gillespie back at Boral operations soon.
